The newly developed manual barrel zoom lens utilizes FUJINON high precision optical technology. With superb F2.0-2.8 brightness and a 4x optical zoom ranging from 28mm wide angle to 112mm telephoto, the lens not only delivers high resolution optical performance across the entire range, but is also a triumph of engineering due to its compact size.

Featuring a wider than normal viewing angle (20°) ensuring you see more of the picture that you're taking, and 85% coverage meaning you see scenes through the viewfinder just as nature intended.

The 12MP 2/3-inch EXR CMOS sensor features FUJIFILM's bespoke EXR pixel array and a larger pixel size to produce improved image quality with enhanced sensitivity and minimal noise.

• The essence of the premium X Series, started with the X100, is the skillful integration of a classic look that calls to mind analogue cameras, along with cutting-edge digital technology. The X100 focuses on fundamental shooting actions: firmly holding the camera with both hands, looking through the viewfinder, rotating the dial and shooting. The X10 carries forward the same commitment, but is even more compact and easier to operate.

• In addition to its 4x optical zoom (28-112mm) and bright lens (F2.0-F2.8), the X10 features a large optical viewfinder with a wide 20° viewing angle and a magnification that zooms as you rotate the manual barrel lens. It also has a built-in pop-up flash with an effective range of 7m (ISO AUTO (800), wide angle). While these specifications substantially differ from those of the X100, in the hands of the user this model maintains the same level of superiority as well as precision and manual control. This delivers pleasure in taking pictures and pride in ownership for many years to come.

• The design of this model evokes a sense of nostalgia, partly by virtue of its premium quality, die-cast magnesium alloy upper control deck and bottom camera housing. The durable synthetic leather that covers the camera's aluminum body panel captures the look and feel of authentic leather. These features create a superior experience that calls to mind the reassuring memories of using classic cameras. Despite its compact size, the model also features a clear, easy-to-use optical viewfinder and solid, precision-milled metal ring and dials. These features and its classic design ensure that the X10 retains the essence of a camera as a means for capturing photographs through the effective use of these authentic materials in a classic design.

• The most distinctive feature developed specifically for the X10 is its manual barrel zoom ring. Rotating the zoom ring recreates the experience of using a single-lens reflex camera, igniting your desire to take pictures.

• The manual zoom lens reduces the overall size of the camera. An electric zoom mechanism would have increased the size of the entire lens assembly with a mounted motor and gear box. The decision to adopt a manual zoom lens made it possible to reduce the camera's size and incorporate a larger, bright lens.

• The X10 also has a power switch in its zoom ring; just rotate the ring to switch on the camera and begin zooming.

• This significantly helps users shoot quickly. Had the power switch been located elsewhere, two steps would have been required: switching the camera on and zooming to change the focal length, with users having to shift their grip on the camera to shoot. So mounting the power switch on the zoom barrel makes shooting photos more natural and instinctive.

• The key to making this process feel natural is the distance to the ring's switch-on/off point and its relative tightness, or rotating angle and rotary torque. The power is turned on by moving the cam in the lens. A cam with a steeper angle takes more effort to rotate at a shorter distance, whereas less energy is needed to rotate a cam with a gentler angle at a greater distance. This is much like climbing a hill. It takes more work to climb a short distance on a steep hill than to walk a longer distance on a gentler slope.

• To make switching on the camera feel right, we designed the structure of the lens assembly so that rotating the ring 40° would switch on the power and the rotating speed would gradually increase as the ring turned. This function was made possible through the use of a metal barrel cam (See photo 1 and 2). We also determined that the greatest rotation from maximum wide-angle to a maximum telephoto position should be 55° to ensure that users could easily rotate the ring with thumb and middle finger. These design aspects enable users to perform a series of actions without having to change their hold of the zoom ring.

A : The grooves in the cam determine the rotating angle and rotary torque of the ring.

(Barrel cam grooves)

• Knurls on the zoom ring at small pitch intervals in three rows keep the fingers from slipping and ensure confident adjustment.

• We inserted a silicon material between the lens and the lens body to improve lens durability and impact resistance and to sufficiently absorb extraneous shock.

• The protruding portion of the grip on the X10 is larger than that of the X100 and a thumb grip on the back of the camera helps the user more securely and confidently hold the camera.

• We incorporated the grip on the back to better accommodate the increased pressure the user's thumb exerts on that part of the camera when the lens is extended. We repeatedly reviewed the design and structure of the grip, considering every aspect of camera operation, from looking through the viewfinder and grasping the camera with both hands to operating the zoom lens, pressing the shutter button, and rotating the dials. After this in-depth review, we were able to come up with the grip's shape.

A : Grip on the back

• Rigidity is a deciding factor for the feel of the hold. The X10 has a 1mm aluminum sheet on the front and back panels of the body that is thicker than those of ordinary cameras (0.8 mm). Rigidity is measured by the cube of the thickness, which means the X10 is nearly twice as rigid as ordinary cameras [1³ / 0.8³ = approx. 2]. This is one of our efforts for making sure users can enjoy the camera for years to come.

• The operability of the X10 is in general based on the X100. Since the camera is smaller, however, we developed several new design features and modified others, such as the size, depth and location of buttons and dials. Especially for the sub command dial on the back of the camera, which is used for changing values in each menu and for focusing in manual focus mode, we adopted a design unique to the X10 including its inner circuit board to ensure it can be easily rotated with the thumb.

B : Sub command dial

• The control dials of the X10, like those of the X100, are metal, which is an exceptional feature for compact digital cameras and contributes to the model's premium grade finish. The metal dials reinforce a sense of stability in operating the camera and ensure its use for years to come.

• In the course of designing the X10, we were particularly committed to using the dark black color scheme that covers the entire body and bringing into harmony the subtle variations in gloss and depth of black in each part. To highlight the location and function of each component, we used several black tones. For example, we applied Hammertone paint to the upper control deck to give it a modest, softly glowing black tone, while making the dials on the upper control deck shiny by adding finer spinning lines. This gives a sense of uniformity to the black body.

• The slim, all-black X10 is the newest addition to the X Series. It offers the X100's premium camera feel and exceptional operability as well as a uniquely fast start-up and compactness, bringing a new standard to the X Series.

• The X10 delivers a new dimension of quality into everyday life, with quick response to every occasion reawakening your passion for photography. For years to come, its crystal clear images will make this model a reliable partner for sharing priceless moments of happiness. We hope you will take advantage of the full potential of the Fujifilm X Series.
